about

With less than a week to go until Steve Clarke’s squad take to the field in Scotland’s first match at a major men’s football finals in 23 years, Tennent’s Lager has launched a new film to celebrate the nation’s five million reasons to care this summer. Featuring Scotland captain Andy Robertson and Serbia goal-hero Ryan Christie, the clip is set to the thumping soundtrack of ‘I Want To Believe (Made For This)’ by Baby Strange.

The Glasgow trio’s recent single has been reworked with new lyrics to celebrate the summer of football. The new version of the track is out today to celebrate the tournament kick-off, with 23% of proceeds – 1% for every year in waiting – donated to Glasgow Saints FC to help tackle food poverty and social isolation in Glasgow’s East End.

Vocalist and guitarist Johnny Madden says of the campaign: “We’re so excited to have been asked to be a part of Tennent’s Lager ‘Made For This’ campaign. We have all been lifelong followers of Scottish football, so to be able to play a part in supporting our country and our national team through the summer is huge for us.

"'’I Want To Believe’ has taken on a whole new meaning and a brand new energy – it’s all about passion, belief and pure desire to see Scotland winning. After a 23-year wait, the song reflects the same grit and determination the team has shown in reaching this point. Scotland’s made for this.”

The original ‘I Want To Believe’ features on Baby Strange’s recent ‘Land of Nothing’ EP, which they’ll be taking on the road with an extensive headline tour Oct-Dec this year.

LYRICS

Push it all the way to the limit
Push it all the way til your hands feel numb
Staring at yourself in the mirror
Waiting for the day that you hear the whistle
Push it all the way to the limit
Don’t tell me once, told me twice before
Excited for the games, did I mention?
Been waiting 25 years, I’ve got a lot of questions

I want to believe that we’re winning
I want to fly the flag cos my heart is in it
It’s been going over in my head
Words I wish I’d said
5 million reasons to believe
Let’s all go, will you come with me?
It’s been going over in my head
Over in my head

Push it all the way to the limit
Push it all the way til your hands feel numb
Staring at yourself in the mirror
Waiting for the day and you wonder where the time has went
Will you tell me?
Will you tell me?
Will you tell me when you know?

I want to believe that we’re winning
I want to fly the flag cos my heart is in it
It’s been going over in my head
Words I wish I’d said
5 million reasons to believe
Let’s all go, will you come with me?
It’s been going over in my head
Over in my head

I want to believe in it
I want to believe in it
I want to believe in it
Cos it always spoke to me
I want to believe in it
I want to believe in it
I want to believe in it
Cos it always spoke to me

I want to believe
That we’re winning
I want to believe
That we’re winning
I want to believe
That we’re winning
I wanna believe, wanna believe

Show me the way
Tartan Army
Show me the way
Are you with me?
Show me the way
Tartan Army
Show me the way, show me the way

I want to believe that we’re winning
I want to fly the flag cos my heart is in it
It’s been going over in my head
Words I wish I’d said
5 million reasons to believe
Let’s all go, will you come with me?
It’s been going over in my head
Over in my head
